Academic Editing

Are you a student of the arts, social sciences, or humanities? If you need academic editing, I’d love to connect.

I have a special interest in themes related to mental health, pregnancy and birth, parenthood, and marginalized communities.

Undergraduate

An undergraduate education ideally develops a student’s ability to write in a compelling, coherent, and authoritative manner. Student success is, in part, predicated on effective communication.

I value academic integrity. My work is restricted to flagging problems, rather than fixing them. I will focus solely on copy editing and proofreading, asking questions or providing broad suggestions to improve correctness (e.g., grammar, mechanics, spelling), consistency, accuracy, and completeness. I do not make any changes to your original text, and I don’t provide advice related to the structure and style of your document.

In keeping with Editors Canada’s Guidelines for Ethical Editing of Undergraduate Student Texts, you will require your professor’s written consent before I agree to provide service.

Graduate

As a graduate student, you are making a unique contribution to your field of study. You’re also being assessed on your ability to communicate your ideas in written form.

As an editor of graduate text, I have a broader scope of practice than that employed in undergraduate work. I can touch on some matters of structure and style, in addition to providing copy editing and proofreading services.

My scope is dictated by Editors Canada’s Guidelines for Ethical Editing of Graduate Student Texts. Your institution’s requirements, and those of your supervisor, are also a consideration. You must provide your supervisor’s written consent before our work can begin.

NOTE: If you work in STEM or another highly technical area, I am not the editor for you. Please check out the freelancer directories at Editors Canada or the Editorial Freelancers Association to find an editor better suited to your area of study.
